Brief Parent-Child Psychotherapy (8 sessions)

The Brief Parent-Child Psychotherapy consists of 8 one-hour sessions with a combination of parents only and child-parent sessions. The sessions can be scheduled once or twice a week at the family’s convenience and can be done online or in-person if feasible.

Session 1: Parents meet with Dafna to discuss their developmental or behavioral questions/concerns.

Sessions 2 & 3: The child and one parent, and then the child and the other parent (if applicable), complete a series of simple tasks designed to elicit a range of behaviors in the child. The interaction takes 30-60 minutes for the child with each parent. The interactions are videotaped. Dafna then reviews the videotaped interactions to prepare feedback for parents.

Sessions 4 & 5: Dafna and parents meet for review of previous sessions. Review includes highlighting positive interactions and strengths, as well as areas for improvement, and to demonstrate the most effective ways to engage and interact with the child. The video viewing also provides parents with the opportunity to show and describe what they’re experiencing. Dafna will discuss strategies on how to deal with behavioral problems at home, based on the feedback discussions. A written list of recommendations, strategies, and resources will be provided.

Sessions 6 & 7: Dafna guiding parent and child in play activities either in person or through online sessions. Dafna will help parent implement the recommended interactions.

Session 8: A summary session where you will have an opportunity to discuss the parent-child questions and ask any follow-up questions.

Fee: $2,000 - Dafna does not accept insurance but will provide a bill for submission to your insurance for reimbursement.

Location: Office located in Evanston, IL. Also available to meet virtually over Zoom.
